The Real Wedding Story of  Maddi and Kerry

"We had a guest from each table dress up as a chef and carve the meat for their table"

How and when did you get engaged?

I really thought that I was going to have to ask Kerry one day. He had always led on, that he would never ask me to marry him and so when he did on Valentines day 2013 it took me back! After a romantic dinner, which he prepared in our home under candle light, he had strapped the ring to the bottom of the chair and got down and pulled it out from under my chair. I was so surprised and just cried with happiness. He had not told anyone that he was going to ask me so it was just as much as a shock to everyone when we told them the big news!

Where and when did you get married?

We got married at Plas Isaf in Corwen on the 14th June 2014

What was your budget?

How did you pick your venue?

We drove round a number of places which we found on a weddings website and never really came across one that felt right for us. We once attended a friends wedding in Plas Isaf and went to go and see it again and fell in love with it. The marquee at the back was ideal for our large evening do and the staff were amazing.

Tell us about the Ceremony

The ceremony was held in Plas Isaf as a civil ceremony. I tried my hardest not to cry walking down the aisle but that went out of the window as soon as I saw Kerry, I was so overwhelmed with happiness.

Tell us about the Wedding Breakfast and Evening Reception

For the meal we had a bit of a twist. We had hired a friend who works for an event management firm to take photo's of the bride and grooms parties in the morning when getting ready. We had told our family and friends that he was just a friend taking extra photo's alongside the photographer so we could get the photo's earlier.

The Marquee was set up for the reception meal and in there were two screens with a slide show of the photo's for everyone to see and he also uploaded pictures of the ceremony for the evening guests to look at in the evening.

There was also another twist, he was the master of ceremonies and the entertainment for the reception. We played games in between courses with bubbly for prizes and also a Mr & Mrs for the bride, groom, maid of honor and her partner. We also had a member from each table dress up as a chef and carve the meat for their table. it was so much fun and everyone had a great laugh, it was something different!

What was your first dance song and how did you choose it?

The first dance felt like it was only me and Kerry in the room. We chose one of our favorite songs that we always loved throughout our relationship and felt it was right. We chose The Courteeners - Take Over The World.

What was your favourite part of the day?

It's hard to pick a specific part of the day to call our favorite, the whole day was pretty much perfect. The ride we had after the ceremony in the VW van just me and him felt special, it gave us a chance to have some alone time and let the ceremony sink in!

Where did you get your dress, flowers and rings from?

Dress - Fairytale Dresses in Wrexham

Flowers - Vivid Floral Design in Wrexham

Rings - H.Samuel

Did you go on honeymoon? If so, where?

We started our honeymoon the next day. We did a West Coast America tour visiting San Francisco, Monterey, San Louis, LA, Las Vegas, San Diego and then finished off with 6 nights in Hawaii.

Which wedding suppliers would you recommend and why?

Wedding cake - Artycakes, Ruthin - the cake was amazing and the attention to detail and customer care were at a high standard. She invited us both to her studio and tried different flavors and browsed her work and came up with a design together that suited myself and Kerry. Vivid Floral Design - Very professional, reasonably priced.

Do you have any tips or recommendations for other brides or grooms?

I had a 12 month, 6 month, 3 month, 1 month & 1 week plan for all the tasks of the wedding which I got from the internet. This really helped me prioritise what needed to be done.

I handmade all of my decorations, invites etc. If you are going to do this, research as much as possible and ensure you are certain with the scheme you wish to go with, you don't want to end up changing your mind and starting again like I did! Also give yourself plenty of time to think about the table plans etc.

Did you have any wedding bargains?

As I handmade all of my invites, this brought the cost down significantly I would estimate that I spent under £50 on the invitations for 80 day guests & an additional 125 evening guests.

Also my wedding dress was very reasonably priced with no hidden costs compared to other suppliers charging extra's for fittings etc. The price of the reception meal in Plas Isaf was very reasonably priced for the quality of food and service.

Did you make anything for the wedding yourself?

As mentioned above. All of the table center pieces, confetti cones, confetti, guest book, invites, bunting, table plan, thank you gifts, favours, table numbers, candle holders, signs, sweet table, name tags etc...

Is there anything else you'd like to tell us about your big day?

Our guests, family, wedding party and venue all were amazing and helped make the day run smoothly! No issues at all with suppliers and everything I was stressing about prior to the wedding, seemed insignificant on the day. Literally all my worries disappeared from the moment I woke up.
