The most popular, by a long way : Corinthians 13. 1-7
And a few others :
Colossians 3. 12-17
John 15. 9-12
For Poems, we recommend getting hold of a copy of ‘Poems and Readings for Weddings’ Edited by Julia Watson (ISBN 978-0-14-101495-1). The Kindle Edition is only £4.99
The most popular welsh poem is probably Priodas by Dic Jones (a Welsh version of the apache blessing), or this, Mi gerddaf gyda thi :
Mi gerddaf gyda thi (I’ll walk with you) – Anonymous/Traditional
Mi gerddaf gyda thi dros lwybrau maith,
A blodau, cân a breuddwyd ar ein taith;
I`th lygaid syllaf i a dal dy law:
Mi gerddaf gyda thi, beth bynnag ddaw
Mi gerddaf gyda thi pan fydd y lloer
Fel llusern yn y nen ar noson oer.
Addawaf i ti'n ghalon i yn llwyr:
Mi gerddaf gyda thi drwy oriau'r hwyr.
Mi gerddaf gyda thi drwy weddill f'oes,
Pan fydd yr haul ar fryn neu'r dyddiau'n groes;
A phan ddaw'r alwad draw, pwy wyr pa awr,
Mi gerddaf gyda thi i’r freuddwyd fawr.
I will walk with you on our long path
With a flower, a dream, and a song on the way
I’ll look into your eyes & hold your hand,
I will walk with you, whatever may come.
I will walk with you when the moon is full
like a lantern in the heaven through the coldest night.
I promise you my heart in full,
I will walk with you through those late hours.
I will walk with you for all my life,
When the sun shines on the hill, and on dark days
And when the call comes, who knows when,
I will walk with you to the greatest dream.
And if you want something a bit quirky, what about :
"Yes, I'll Marry You," by Pam Ayres,
"I Rely on You," by Hovis Presley or
Edward Lear’s The Owl and the Pussy-Cat?
Some of these may also be suitable to walk down the aisle to, at a civil wedding. But remember that civil weddings can’t include any religious reference (so for instance Robbie Williams’ Angels probably wouldn’t be allowed), and it’s worth checking the lyrics carefully.
